The Palestinian NGOs Network (PNGO) hosted a meeting between members of the Humanitarian Youth Group (HYGP) and the Health Cluster Coordinator in Gaza to discuss health response priorities, healthcare challenges and opportunities to strengthen youth participation in humanitarian efforts.

The Palestinian NGOs Network (PNGO) hosted a meeting at its office in Gaza City, bringing together members of the Humanitarian Youth Group (HYGP) and Dr. Mohammed Al-Kurdi, Health Cluster Coordinator. The meeting focused on health response priorities, coordination mechanisms and the challenges facing healthcare services in Gaza, with particular attention to young people's access to healthcare and how their needs are addressed in humanitarian response efforts.

The meeting began with a presentation by Dr. Al-Kurdi, who outlined the Health Cluster's structure, its role in coordinating the health response and how it works with humanitarian partners. He also discussed key priorities and challenges in delivering healthcare services to affected communities, including barriers to accessing care and the importance of coordination among health organisations and humanitarian partners in responding to growing health needs across Gaza.

An open discussion followed, giving HYGP members an opportunity to raise questions about young people's access to healthcare and how their needs are reflected in health interventions. Participants also explored opportunities for youth representation in Health Cluster meetings with humanitarian partners, allowing young people to bring forward the concerns of their communities and contribute to discussions on health response priorities.

The meeting concluded with several recommendations, including preliminary approval to nominate an HYGP member to participate in the Health Cluster as an observer, marking an initial step towards greater youth representation in health coordination mechanisms. The next steps include developing terms of reference for the representative and inviting interested HYGP members to put themselves forward, with the final nominee to be selected through a vote among group members. Participants also agreed to arrange further meetings with the Health Cluster Coordinator whenever young people need to discuss emerging health concerns, helping maintain an ongoing dialogue on issues affecting their communities.
